Turkish NGOs yells into void about Gaza’s food crisis
According to reports, numerous Turkish foundations and associations have consistently sent essential supplies, including food, clothing, medical equipment, hygiene kits, and baby products, to support civilians affected by the genocide that began on October 7, 2023. The primary focus of these efforts has been to mitigate the worsening food crisis in Gaza, which continues to escalate daily.
Marking World Humanitarian Day, Turkish organizations highlighted their aid contributions. The Turkish Red Crescent, one of the leading NGOs involved, conducted five “Kindness Ship” missions. Over the course of 10 ships, the organization delivered a total of 869 truckloads—equivalent to 15,089 tons—of humanitarian supplies, including food, hygiene items, and medical and shelter materials.
During the Muslim Eid al-Adha holiday, the Red Crescent also sent 52,164 cans of diced meat (each 800 grams) to Gaza, prepared from sacrificial animals. These donations were coordinated with Türkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) and the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA). The shipments, transported in 12 containers to Egypt’s Alexandria Port, arrived in Gaza between January 27 and 28.
Additionally, 261 tons of canned meat included in Türkiye’s 15th aid ship are being carefully monitored by Red Crescent teams in the region. These supplies, dispatched under AFAD’s supervision, are prepared for immediate transport into Gaza to further support the humanitarian response.
