Syrian leader arrives in Brazil for COP30 climate summit

(MENAFN) Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa arrived in Brazil on Thursday for a two-day visit to participate in the COP30 climate summit, scheduled from Nov. 6 to 21, according to official reports.

Sharaa marks the first Syrian president to attend a UN climate conference since the gatherings began in 1995.

After the summit, he is expected to continue his trip to Washington for a meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.

The COP30 summit is projected to host around 50,000 participants, including global leaders, scientists, and representatives from non-governmental organizations, all coming together to discuss strategies for addressing the global climate crisis.
