Briel Highlights Over $2M in Available Tourism Grants

OTTAWA, Ill. – Working to expand foot traffic revenue and promote economic growth across her communities, state Rep. Amy “Murri” Briel, D-Ottawa, is encouraging Illinois Valley municipalities, government units and entities including non-profit, for-profit and community promotional groups to apply for new grants from the Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) now through Nov. 13.

“Our district proudly houses Starved Rock State Park, which is the fourth most-visited state park in the United States. Communities just like this one across the Illinois Valley rely heavily on tourism and leveraging our local attractions to keep our towns moving,” said Briel. “That’s why I highly encourage our local agencies and organizations to consider applying for these newly announced grants, which can give our hotels, restaurants, mom-and-pop shops, and our countless outdoor areas a leg up to expand and cater to even more visitors who can enjoy the places and spaces we enjoy every day.”

DCEO announced Tuesday that $1.8 million is available through the Tourism Attraction Grant Program to help communities develop or improve attractions including museums, recreation areas, amusement parks and more. Additionally, $600,000 is available through the Tourism Private Sector Grant Program for entities to attract, host and develop new events and festivals across Illinois.

“I’m proud to represent a community that has so much to offer for people across the country—beautiful outdoor spaces, fun entertainment and classic Midwest gems like our restaurants, shops and other small businesses that complete the Illinois Valley. I look forward to seeing our community continue to grow with opportunities like this one from DCEO. My office is always available to help our folks navigate these grants, so just reach out,” said Briel.
